Dbanj Biography And Musical Career
Dbanj alias the kokomaster was born on June 9, 1980 in the northern part of Nigeria to a military officer who was in charge of an artillery regiment and a businesswoman who hailed from Shagamu in Ogun State. His father’s profession was a tasking one and made the family move several times within Nigeria and much later, the father moved to England. The young Daniel Oyebanjo was expected to follow his father’s military career and was he was enrolled to the Nigerian Military School at a young age. But the young Dbanj had other aspirations of being a musician rather than being a Military personnel as was hope by his parents. D’banj’s love for music being greater than his parents military aspirations, he struggled to convince his parents to allow him do Music. Dbanj was introduced to the use of his favorite musical equipment harmonica by his late older brother, Femi.
Dbanj studied at the University of Lagos briefly to be a mechanical engineer but due to constant strikes and other vices attainable in most Nigerian university,he headed to London to complete his degree Education. Whilst in London ,his paths crossed with his future business partner,Don jazzy,who was an aspiring producer and song writer. Donjazzy told Dbanj he saw a star in him and sighting the raise of the Nigerian musical industry, they both relocated to Nigeria in 2004 and released a song titled Tongolo which enjoyed massive air play from Radio stations and television channels. Dbanj and Donjazzy formed the mohit’s record which had other members such as D’prince, Wandecoal, Dr sid and Kayswitch.
D’banj’s debut album, No Long Thing, was released in 2005. It had several singles with Tongolo as the lead single. D’banj’s second studio album was named “Rundown Funk U Up”, which was released in 2006, had several singles including the club single, Tongolo (Remix), and the Smash hit single “Why Me?” Which dominated the airplay in various African nation’s for weeks undisturbed.

In 2017,Dbanj released the album titled “King Don Come”, with guest features from the likes of Wande Coal, Harry Songs, Bucie. The album includes singles ‘It’s Not A Lie’ and El Chapo which features the American Rapper,Gucci Mane. Dbanj married Lineo Didi Kilgrow in a secret wedding in 2016 and the couple have a son named Daniel III.
