Adebayo Ogunlesi,(56 years old) is a Nigerian-born lawyer and investment banker. He is presently the Chairman and Managing Partner of Global Infrastructures Partners (GIP), an independent equity and investment firm. He is also the new owner of London Gatwick Airport and is often referred to as “The Nigerian that owns three airports”.
Biography And Education
Born in Makun, Sagamu, Ogun State on December 20, 1953, Adebayo O. Ogunlesi is the son of Professor Theophilus O. Ogunlesi who was the first Nigerian Professor of medicine at University of Ibadan.
He attended King’s College in Lagos before proceeding to Oxford University England for B.A in Philosophy, Politics and Economics. He obtained an M.B.A from Harvard Business School and also received a J.D. magna cum laude from Harvard Law School.
Career And Investments
From 1980-1981, Ogunlesi served as a law clerk in the United States Supreme Court, then from 1981-1983 as an attorney in the corporate practice group of the New York City Law firm of Cravath, Swaine and Moore and in 1983, he joined the Investment Bank First Boston a san advisor on a Nigerian Gas project.
He served as the head of the Global Energy Group of Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) from 1997-2002 and as Executive Vice Chairman and chief client officer of CSFB. He started his own private equity firm named Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) on July 2006. His firm GIP owns three airports which are: London City Airport which was purchased in 2006, London Gatwick Airport in 2009 and Edinburgh Airport in 2012.

He was appointed to the Board of Directors at Goldman Sachs in October 2012 and became the Lead Director on July 24, 2014. He joined the team of Donald Trump’s Strategic and Policy Forum in December 2016 and the team was disbanded on August 16, 2017. He is a member of the District of Columbia Bar Association and was a lecturer at Harvard Law School
Personal Life And Marriage
Adebayo Ogunlesi married Dr Amelia Quist-Ogunlesi, a British-born optometrist in 1985 and they have two children. At 56, he is presently the Chairman and Managing Partner of GIP, an independent equity and investment firm based in New York City with global stake in Infrastructural assets. He has lived in New York for twenty years and is active in several volunteer work.
