Do Not Disturb (DND) is a service that allows you to block unsolicited SMS from third parties and even the network service providers. In a nutshell, it blocks you from getting bulk SMS. It was launched in 2016 with its effective date on 1st July, 2016. It’s a way Nigerian communications commission (NCC) communicates concern to numerous mobile users in the country.
Do Not Disturb (DND) becomes necessary at anytime the mobile network user deem it fit but the commonest of these reasons include;
- After contacting your service provider for help severally without any change
- When the text messages become too disturbing and irritating.
- When credit deductions continually occur because of these SMS.
The Do Not Disturb (DND) is available for all users on the available different networks (MTN, Glo, Airtel, 9mobile) in the country and it is absolutely free of charge to use. It can be used on any line as long as the line is active. The Do Not Disturb (DND) service is a directive from the regulatory bodies in Nigeria.

How To Go About Do Not Disturb (DND)
The Do Not Disturb (DND) service can be activated and as well deactivated depending on your choice. To activate the Do Not Disturb (DND) service irrespective of your mobile, kindly follow through the steps
- On your mobile device, kindly navigate to the SMS menu
- Select the write new or compose to write “STOP”
- Forward it to 2442
This helps to stop all unsolicited SMS.
To get all the details that pertains to the Do Not Disturb (DND), kindly follow the steps below;
- On your mobile device, kindly navigate to the SMS menu
- Select the write new or compose to write “HELP”
- Forward it to 2442
You will then get messages that will give you full details on the service.
To Deactivate The Do Not Disturb (DND) Service, please follow these steps;
- On your mobile device, kindly navigate to the SMS menu
- Select the write new or compose to write “ALLOW”
- Forward it to 2442
This enables you keep getting your bulk SMS.
You could do partial Do Not Disturb (DND) which means you can only receive some sort of bulk SMS. Here are the steps to follow:
- On your mobile device, kindly navigate to the SMS menu
- Select the write new or compose to write just the number which stand for the SMS you want to be receiving.
- Forward it to 2442
Here are the numbers and what they mean;
For FULL DND, Text STOP to 2442. To receive all messages, Text ALLOW to 2442. To check your DND status, Text STATUS to 2442. For Partial DND, text any of the following options to 2442:-

5: To receive consumer goods & Automobiles

If you are not sure whether or not it is activated, simply send STATUS to 2442 and you will get an SMS telling if it is activated or not.
