DStv was launched in the year 1995, on a newly-constructed digital platform by a group of South Africans. which has grown so big, there by covering nearly 50 countries in Africa. It Offers a range of pay-television services with a variety of language options as well as excellent quality viewing. DStv has a range of packages from DStv Premium, DStv Compact +, DStv Compact, down to DStv Family and DStv Access. Packages that are flexible in prices, which allows subscribers to pick from a large range of options. DStv is also available in the mobile form which was launched in 2011. It is known as DStv mobile.
GOtv on the other hand was launched in the year 2011. It is a pay television that offers digital terrestrial television (DTT). It is also Africa’s first commercial operation using the advanced DVB-T2 digital standard. Impressive right? Well, that’s not all. GOtv is also a cheaper version of the DStv. GOtv offers a range of channels in different local languages and from different parts of the world. GOtv has a range of packages designed for subscribers in different class and field. We have the GOtv Max, GOtv Jollie, GOtv Jinja, GOtv smallie – monthly, GOtv smallie – (quarterly) and the GOtv smallie –(annual). GOtv is equally available in the mobile form.
DStv and GOtv are jointly owned by MultiChoice Africa.
Dew to the fact that entertainment is the main purpose of both the DStv and GOtv they air a massive number of movies which have adult contents in them or are not suitable for kids below a certain age work ( viewer’s discretion is always indicated). DStv and GOtv came up with a way that will keep you the subscriber in control . This allows the parents control what their kids watch home and away. This is known as PARENTAL CONTROL and it can be activated in the following ways.

For A DStv Subscriber Here’s How To Activate The Parental Control
- Click the Blue ‘DStv’ button on your remote
- Go to settings
- Click Parental Control
- Click PG settings
- Enter 1234 (it is the default pin)
- Select global blocking then change it to personalize
- To activate, move down to PARENTAL CONTROL and select (18).
- For channel blocking : switch on channel blocking.
- Click blocked channels to select the channel number you wish to block (e.g.) channel 198 for BB Naija then press (‘OK’).
For A GOtv Subscriber, Here’s How To Activate The Parental Control
- Click the GOtv or Menu button on your remote
- Move to parental control
- Click PG settings
- Enter 1234 ( it is the default pin)
- Select global blocking then change it to personalize
- To activate move down to PARENTAL GUIDANCE SETTINGS and select (18).
- For channel blocking: switch on BLOCK CHANNELS
- Click on the channel number you wish to block (e.g.) channel. 29 for BB Naija after which you press (‘OK’).
