How To Get Rid Of Head Lice In Nigeria With Different Treatments

The head louse (Pediculus humanus capitis) is an ecto-parasite that causes head lice (pediculosis capitis) in humans. Head lice are wingless insects, they spend their entire lives on the scalp of humans. They feed on the human blood. Humans are the only known hosts at the moment of this specific parasite.

Head lice are hard and very little creatures that adapt to most situations. When they are on the head, it takes a lot of effort and time to get them out as their bodies are made to latch, stick and stay on the scalp.

They spread very easily. From head to head, (also from comb to comb but they do not live for many hours outside the human head.). The remedy for lice is anti parasitic.

Techniques On How To Get Rid Of Head Lice In Nigeria

There are different techniques in removing head lice.

  •  Combing technique
  • Hair dryer technique

The most important tool you need to get rid of lice is a big bag of patience. This process that takes a lot of time and dedication.

  • A long tip comb/Hand held hair dryer: After patience, the next tool you need to rid off hair lice is a comb. Not just an ordinary comb. But a long tip comb that has very little distance.  Like a nit comb. The teeth of the comb must be close to each other.

If you have a frizzy, tangled hair or a natural hair, you will need a hair dryer.  Your hair must be  easy to comb through, because you need to work in sections ( as small as possible) while combing . The heat of the dryer will help dry, straighten and comb out the hair simultaneously ( Be careful not to burn or damage your hair low heat is fine ). If your hair is soft or tangle free then, you can skip the process of hair drying.

  •  Menthilated  Shampoo or Anti dandruff shampoo : The menthol from the shampoo helps suffocate and weaken the lice. At this stage please do not comb.
  • Conditioner –  This is the stage where you will need to comb out the lice. To be able to comb through your hair you need to apply a generous amount of conditioner to help soften, straighten and comb out the lice.

Note: if your hair tangles a  lot,  it is advisable to keep your hair dry and straight.

Essential oils:  essential oils like Tea Tree, Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Citronella and Peppermint are very efficient for killing lice and other infections on the hair and skin. Using all five oils  will be a very powerful mix, I advise you start with a few drops of  2 /3 oils then watch how your body reacts to them, before going on with the whole 5 oils. Note: Essential oils causes hair damage and break outs on the skin.

  • Shower cap/plastic bag: To trap the heat of the essential oils.
  • A clean towel.
  • Straightener.

Step 1 – APPLY OIL MIXTURE TO HAIR:

Coat hair with mix of 2/3  essential oils. Wrap with plastic bag or a shower cap for at least an hour or more. ( You can go under a hair dryer for 30 minutes.)

Step 2 – WASHING OUT OIL MIXTURE FROM THE HAIR:

Wash out oil  mixture from your hair with warm water. Then, apply shampoo (rinse out with cold water), Condition properly. Air dry a bit and then straighten it. Be gentle, heat and natural hair are not friends.

Step 3 – COMB OUT LICE:

Using the combing method, go through your hair in small sections. This is the most important step (because this is when you remove the lice from your head)

When you have gone over your hair at least three times without encountering any head lice, then you can stop.

However, for best results, you will need to go over these steps twice or thrice in a week ( a period of two / three weeks is fine).

it is advisable to wash everything that may have been in contact to your hair before the treatment.
