Italian Visa Application, The Requirements And All The Fees Involved

Want to visit Italy? If yes, we will show you all you need to know. Italy happens to be a country located in the Southern region of Europe that has a rich culture with a myriad of attractive places that tourists love and visit.

The capital city of Italy is Rome and the country is one of the most visited in Europe.

However, before gaining access into the country, you will need to apply for an Italy visa and for you to do this, you’ll need a valid Nigerian Immigration passport, and satisfy other visa application requirements.

Requirements For Italian Visa Application

No matter the type of visa being applied for, all applicants should note that they need the following documents below.

• You need a duly filled and signed visa application form
• Make sure all the fields of the form must be filled.
• You need a valid Nigerian passport with at least two free pages, and 6 months validity
• You need 2 clear colored passport-size photos
• You need to provide proof of payment of visa application fee
• You need to provide a travel health insurance
• You need to provide Hotel accommodation for tourist visa applicants.
• Provide an invitation letter from a sponsor in Italy, for family visa applicants.
• Provide a proof of financial capacity.
• Provide any other documents that supports the purpose of the planned visit.

For all under aged (below 18 years) applicants, will provide the following documents:

• Provide a copy of birth certificate issued by the National Population Commission
• Provide a letter from the applicant’s school stating clearly the class attended and permission of absence.
• Provide a written consent from parents in form of a sworn Affidavit which must be issued by a High Court including the parent’s identity photograph and a copy of his/her passport.

Different Types Of Italy Visas

Whenever you want to travel to Italy, you would need a Uniform Schengen Visa. The Uniform Schengen Visa (USV) permits individuals to enter all the 26 members’ states of the Schengen area. However, this USV has 3 categories:

The Category A: the Airport Transit Visa; these type of visa does not permit entry into the Schengen area.

The Category B: the Transit Visa; these type of visa permits entry into more than one Schengen for a period of 5 days maximum.

The Category C: the Short-term visas; these type includes single-entry, double-entry and multiple entry visas.

For Single Entry Italy (Schengen) Visa

These type of visa grants individuals permission to enter Italy only once within the period of time mentioned in the visa sticker which is affixed to your passport. And once you exit the country you will not be allowed to return to the country even if you have not spent the number of days permitted by the embassy on your visa.

For Double Entry Italy (Schengen) Visa

This double entry visa gives you another chance to go back to Italy after leaving. And also, with this visa, you would not be allowed to return to the Schengen area after leaving it a second time. Please ensure you do not exceed the number of days you are permitted to stay in Italy.

For Multiple Entry Visa

This multiple entry visa permits you to go in and out of Italy as many times as you want, but ensure you do not violate the 90/180 rule. This 90/180 rule states that once a traveler has spent 90 days in total in the Schengen zone (either consecutively or separately) within 6 months.

Here are the 3 types of Multiple Entry Visa;

• A 1 Year Multiple Entry Visa
• A 3 Year Multiple Entry Visa
• A 5 Year Multiple Entry Visa

Please note that for all three types of Multiple Entry Visa you can leave and return as many times as you would like but you must obey the 90/180 rule. But however, you would have to provide evidence to the embassy why you need to stay that long.

For Long-stay Visas

Just as the name depicts, the Italy visa department issues these visa types to persons who intend to stay in Country for a long period of time, or permanently. No matter your reason for needing to stay longer in Italy, whether is for academics, work or health, and if you intend to stay longer than 90 days you would have to apply for a resident permit.

The Italy Visa Fees

For Short Term Visas for adults will cost 60 euros

For Short Term Visas for children between 0 to 6 years going on tourism will be FREE

For Short Term Visas for children between 6 to 12 years going on tourism cost 35 euros

Please note that this fee does not include visa service charge. 

Italian visa service costs between 80 USD to 275 USD, that is, about 30,000 Naira to 100,000 Naira on the average.
