The Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) was brought to being in 1961 which came as an outcome of a general meeting of top managers in the Commerce Industry and Government were all Invited to discuss the formation of a management Institute in Nigeria.

Sequel to the meeting, the Nigerian Management Group was formed. The Group was immediately given a good recognition by many international institutions like the British Institute of Management, American Management Association etc.

Later in January, 1964, the Nigerian Management Group had a change of name to Nigerian Institute of Management and was fully incorporated under the Nigerian Companies Act, Cap. 37 as a non-profit making company, limited by Guarantee and not having a share capital.
