University of Lagos, popularly known as Unilag was established in 1962, and located around the Akoka Yaba environment of Lagos, the institution was termed as a first choice university in Nigeria for high school student seeking admission; for its educational transformation. The university from its onset has produced great and large numbers of alumni and top societal figures, a list which includes the current vice president of Nigeria, Governors and other notable figures.
At inception the institution started with three departments which are Faculty of commerce and business, Faculty of law and Faculty of medicine, back then dur4ing the academic session of 1962/63 the recorded numbers of students were: 46 students in commerce and business department, 26 students in the law department and 28 students in medicine.
However this figures in comparison with today’s attendant is a proof that the institution education system is highly proficient, the school records 59,000 active students with an increase in the admission of fresher each year. The university has an estimated number of 1,246 teaching staffs and 2,310 and non teaching staffs, it a Radio station in its campus called “Unilag Radio 103.1” the only university Radio station in Nigerian, the station was established to enhance learning and also as a means of vital information all through the campus, its band signal is highly active in the Lagos metropolis; as it also offer significant program for the general public.
The University presently offers 14 professional academic courses in 12 seasoned faculties which are:

And it also has it centre for Human rights centre for African Regional integration and Border studies. with Distance learning institute (DLI), which offers it program on the weekend basis, and its courses consist

The Student Affairs
The institution student affair department is responsible for all student’s means of studying within the campus, in term of these issues related to student on the campus which includes their membership, attributed benefits and accommodations.
University of Lagos provides 15 halls in total for student staying within the campus, it provides accommodation to over 9000 students, the male hostels are

- Sodeinde hall
- Biobaku hall
- El-kanem hall
- And female hostel :

- Honours Hall
- Queen amina hall
- Fagunwa hall

Including, Henry car and Erastus Akingbola hall which are mixed hostel.
At the beginning of the academic session, hostel accommodation is given to students who have paid their school fees and other dues attached. The registration is done online on the school online portal.
This accommodation fee is paid every session together with other payments.
The exact payment is made to the bank and proof of payment will be issued to indicate payment.
