We all know what the West Africa Examination Council, WAEC does.
The certificate given by this educational organization is accepted both locally here in Nigeria and internationally anywhere in the world. The council consists of different West African countries that came together on an agreement to conduct this examination for candidates only in this countries.
This organization has been in operation for several years back, and they have witness so many candidate writing the exam and not collecting their result.
This lead to the agreement of placing a penalty on any candidate who did not come to pick up his or her certificate within a year of writing.
“Kindly note that most of these certificates have been found to be lying fallow in various offices of the institution with no one coming forward to collect them, and they have been keeping them safely for years now.
They have also noticed that candidates come in drones for this certificates, only when they have absolute need for them.”
“I don’t know the reason why people will sit for exams and their certificates are ready yet they will not come for collection. What was the essence of the certificate in the first place?’’
These were the words of WAEC spokesman back in 2013 when he was tempering his frustration.
Now a penalty has been place for late collection of result.
Below Is The Details Of The Penalty
0 – 4 years N3, 500
5 – 9 years N8, 500
10 – 14 years N13, 500
15 – 19 years N18, 500
20 years and above N23, 500
If you are collecting your result between four years of sitting for it, you would be asked to pay a fine named ‘custody fee’ of three thousand five hundred naira only respectively.

How To Process And Collect Your Waec Result
Waec has different batches;
May/June for school candidate.
November/December for private candidate.
And the newly introduced January/February for private candidate too.
How May/June Candidates Can Get Their Certificate
The WAEC officials been tired of keeping people’s result now send the result to the various schools where you sat for the examination. It is now the school that will ask you to pay for collection. Prices varies depending on the school’s management. So you can get your’s from the school you wrote it.

How Private Candidates Can Get Their Certificate
Private candidates are to get their certificates from the WAEC office directly. Visit any of the WAEC offices closest to you and you would be given instructions for further steps.
Requirements For The Collection Of Your WAEC Certificate
- An Application letter
- One passport-size photograph
- The online result print out
- A sworn affidavit from the High Court
- Your photo card or identity card.
WAEC would definitely need a proof that you are the owner of the result and all those requirements above gives them that.

When you have gotten your certificate, do well to keep it safe because if you misplace it, printing another one would be another long story.
