The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) is a university opened, run and operated by the federal government. It is a research university in essence, they conduct research.

It is a university in the Northern region of Nigeria. In 1962, Oct 4 the now Ahmadu Bello University was established as University of Northern Nigeria.

It is a public research university and has Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, Obi of Onitsha as its chancellor, and Professor Ibrahim Garbage as its vice chancellor. It is based at Zaria in Kaduna State of Nigeria. It has an Urban type of campus, and it has been nicknamed  ABU;

A meaning Ahmadu

B meaning Bello, and

U meaning University

 

The Ahmadu bello university has some very notable alumni. The university is known for producing prominent individuals and leaders of tomorrow.

Atiku Abubakar the Former Vice president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the now contesting President is among their long list of Alumni and so also is Namadi Sambo, Donald Duke and even their current vice chancellor, Ibrahim Garba. They are all involved in an alumni association which was founded in the early 60’s.

Today, the alumni association has many branches across the federation. The president of this association is Ahmed Tijani Mora.

The university offers a lot of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

How To Register For Any Of The Postgraduate Programmes;

  1. Visit abu.edu.ng/pgform/ to create your account.
  2. After creation of account, you should obtain your unique transaction ID. This ID is what you will use to pay for your application form.

Note that all postgraduate form at the Ahmadu Bello University cost Ten thousand naira only. This fee might be altered when bank charges are added.

  1. After obtaining your Transaction ID, go to any of the banks approved by ABU to make payment.
  2. After making payment, go back to your ABU portal and finish your registration.

Requirement For Registration

  1. Applicant must have the normal undergraduate requirements, both at O’level and university level.
  2. Applicant with 3rd class can be admitted if they have.additional qualifications like post graduation work experience.
  3. Those with a CGPA of 3.5 and above will be allowed to continue with their relevant PhD degree.

 

 

Below Are Some Of The Courses You Can Study At ABU Postgraduate Programmes.

1. Local Government And Development Studies

These are the best in the  Faculty. Doctorate to help  achieve Ph.D. in Local Government and Development Studies – the doctorate program runs for  three years; – Doctorate Programme to help achieve M.Phil. Local Government and Development Studies – one year; – Masters Programme to help achieve Masters in Local Government and Development Studies – two years.

 

2. Accounting And Finance:-

The duration of the programme is three years. As you graduate, you will get a Ph.D. in Accounting and Finance. If you choose the M.Phil programme, you will need to study for only one year.

 

3.Public Administration:-

This program is for those that would like to serve in the public sector on graduation.  – Doctorate Programme to help achieve Ph.D. Public Administration – three years; – Doctorate Programme to help achieve M.Phil. Public Administration – one year; – Masters Programme to help achieve Masters in Public Administration – two years.
